Lulu Levy Named Student Assistant at Cricket Hill!

Lulu & RickyCongratulations to Lulu Levy, Hillsdale, who has achieved the designation of Student Assistant! Lulu, 11, has been riding at Cricket Hill now for three years. She enjoys her lessons and Saddle Club, as well as her practice rides on Ricky, getting ready for her second trip to Lendon’s Youth Dressage Festival in August. Lulu was part of last year’s very successful team that placed 5th out of 57! Lulu also took the Centered Riding Clinic last April.

The Student Assistant Program at Cricket Hill recognizes the progress our young riders make as they develop their horse handling skills and safe practices. This is an elective program for students who volunteer to take on more responsibility in caring for horses and helping younger riders. It is a wonderful opportunity to give back to the Academy and prepare for horse ownership. Applicants are checked out on a series of skill and knowledge areas by Kira, our Head Trainer, and are tested on their understanding of the Cricket Hill Safety Workbook. When they pass, they sign an agreement along with their parents and Kira.

Finding your centerKira, Palmer, Kristin and Paddy joined Jami for their first Centered Riding Mini-Clinic. They also learned about the four basics – centering, soft eyes, building blocks and breathing. Each enjoyed her own “ah-ha” moment, nice and warm in the Cricket Hill Lounge!

Here’s the newest, fun way to kick off your Saturday night! Twelve riders, ages 11 to we’re-not-telling, gathered in the lounge 5:30- 7:00 pm for the first of two unmounted mini clinics introducing Centered Riding at Cricket Hill.

Jami Wallace, Senior Instructor and Level III Centered Riding Instructor, led the session introducing the Four Basics – centering, soft eyes, building blocks and breathing. Some highlights below:

Big Cricket Hill Contingent goes to D4K Educational Program!

Academy Education Trip 2-2-14Eleven assembled at the barn this morning and were off by 7 am to Woodbury CT for the 12th annual Dressage4Kids Weekend Educational Program for kids, their parents and trainers. Ours was an enthusiastic group – 8 kids and 3 instructors. Jami was a presenter at the workshop for the sixth year in a row, giving participants a fun intoduction to Centered Riding.  She is a certified Level III Centered Riding Instructor and Clinician. Everybody got the chance to try the exercises to help balance. Here’s Mia Emy on the right working with Laurie Inglis, also a certified Centered Riding Instructor and judge at our Holiday Show. Lyla Andrick is named Student Assistant at Cricket Hill

Lyla & Ricky canteringCongratulations to Lyla Andrick, Staatsburg, who has achieved the designation of Student Assistant! Lyla, now 11, started riding hunters at 6, but decided last year that she wanted to pursue dressage, and so joined Cricket Hill. Lyla enjoys her lessons and Saddle Club. She audited one day of the Shelly Francis Clinic last November. We’re looking forward to Lyla’s making her first trip to the Youth Dressage Festival next July!Ricky & Lyla
